Slappin Da Bass

I've been doing a little thinking lately.   I don't know if you have seen "I Love You, Man" but I think I might be the living, breathing Peter Klavin.

For those of you who haven't seen the movie, do! It's very funny and very accurate.  Here is the movie synopsis:
Peter Klaven's world revolves around his real estate work and Zooey, his soon-to-be fiancée. After he pops the question, she calls her best friends and they go into wedding planning mode. Peter has no male friends and that poses problems: will he turn out to be a clingy guy, and who will be his best man? Zooey, her friends, and Peter's brother Robbie offer help that results in awkward moments. Then, at an open house Peter's hosting, he meets Sydney, an amiable, low-key guy. They trade business cards, and Peter calls him to meet for drinks. A friendship develops that's great at first but then threatens Peter's engagement and career. Can guys be friends and couples be in love?

Basically, Peter has no adult male friends, and no idea as to who to make any.  And that is where I come in.  How do adult guys make friends?

I feel like there are only a few places to meet people: Work, Hobbies, and Kids stuff.  My work is pretty well out.  I'll only be there a few more weeks and none of the people there are people that I would want to see outside of that environment.  I really enjoy my time playing soccer, and that is generally the highlight of my social week. The problem with that is it's only about 16 weekends per year.  Though, I'm sure, the longer I am playing with this team, the better relationships will get.  And lastly, Kids events.  I think right now they are just too young to really meet people at their events.  Kelsey and I are probably going to do something for the kids in Owyn's school and their parents.  I think that has some possibilities as the parents I have spoken to at the school seem really great.

So, once I know where to find people to socialize with, the next trick is how.  I don't really small talk well.  I never know what to talk about.  I'm really probably just over thinking things.  So, I'm going to try to do my part to be a little more social.  I plan on attending a couple of holiday parties this weekend, and hopefully some friends are coming over next week for dinner.

CAUTION!! THERE MAY BE SOME SALTY LANGUAGE IN THERE!!
